Underground cellars under the old town

First thing, no debate. The cellars were dug between the 12th and 18th centuries, with breathing shafts (zarceras) emerging at street level. Bodega Las Velas, Bodega de las Ánimas and the cooperative Virgen de las Viñas all run guided visits. The cooperative also includes tasting of local products.

Santa María church

A 15-16th century Plateresque facade, one of the best in Castile. Free entry. Worth going in even if you're not religious.

Bodegas Vega Sicilia (in Valbuena de Duero)

35 km from Aranda. Spain's most prestigious winery. Visits with tasting, by reservation only (weeks or months ahead). If you get a slot, don't think twice.

Bodegas Protos (in Peñafiel)

50 km away. Building designed by Richard Rogers, built into the hillside of Peñafiel castle. Visit plus tasting. More touristy than Vega Sicilia but the building is striking.

50 km, houses the Provincial Wine Museum. Combine with a Protos visit in the same day.
