Numanthia is the winery that internationalized Toro. Founded in 1998 by the Eguren family (from Sierra Cantabria in Rioja), acquired by LVMH in 2008, and since then part of the French luxury group's premium wine portfolio. Numanthia and Termanthia (the latter from centenarian own-rooted vines) are among the most expensive and internationally sought Toro wines. Premium small-group visit — through old own-rooted vineyards (some 120+ years old), winery, and a vertical tasting.

Toro
Pintia is Vega Sicilia's Toro project. The Álvarez family (also owners of Vega Sicilia, Alión, Macán, and Oremus) settled in San Román de Hornija in 1997, identified old own-rooted vineyards, and built the contemporary winery (Eduardo Sánchez de Ocaña, 2001). The wine — Pintia, the house's only label — is one of the most balanced and elegant Toros. Serious visit, no crowds, with the Vega Sicilia brand behind every detail.
Valladolid · Ribera del Duero
Mauro is Mariano García's personal project — same García behind Aalto and Vega Sicilia — but under his own name. Founded in 1980 in Tudela de Duero, technically outside the Ribera del Duero appellation (west of the boundary), so the wines go out as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. Mauro and Terreus are the flagships — Tempranillo selected with surgical precision. The visit passes through the historic 17th-century cellar and the modern facility.

Visiting Vega Sicilia is a bit like going to the Zarzuela theatre: you book ahead, there's a protocol, and when you arrive you can tell the institution knows exactly what it is. Founded in 1864 in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), 35 km from Aranda, Spain's most prestigious winery and one of the few that hasn't given in to trends. Only four wines — Único, Único Reserva Especial, Valbuena 5° and Alión — in small batches at high prices. Único is probably the most expensive Spanish wine on the secondary market. Dominant grape is Tinto Fino, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blended in. Visits are by reservation only (weeks or months ahead) and typically include a vertical tasting of Único across vintages. If you can muster the budget and schedule, it doesn't resemble any other visit in Spain.
