Ribera del DueroNº 01
Aranda de Duero
Aranda isn't a city that sells itself easily. 33,000 people, deep in the Castilian plateau, on the bank of the Duero. What it has is two things: medieval underground wine cellars under the old town (over 7 km of vaulted tunnels, several open to visit) and roast suckling lamb (lechazo) cooked in wood-fired ovens — the local signature, served in a dozen asadores that have been doing it the same way for generations. If you're going to Ribera del Duero for wine tourism, Aranda is the obvious base.
